Artist Statement
I deeply value profound connection to myself and to others. I find that life takes all its meaning in this intimate relationship between layers of ourselves in interaction with layers of another person and the richness and complexity of this connection. To me, creating art and looking at a piece of artwork is a profound and meditative way of making this process alive. I see art making as a humble act of vulnerability and deep courage and I truly believe artwork can help viewers connect to their own vulnerabilities as well.
Gathering experience in my art practice, I see underlying themes of solitude, connection, encounters, layers of self, and fragility, naturally coming out of my work. I'm working on portraying beauty within suffering. I am intuitively drawn to transparency, layering and soft colors, but I see my artistry as constantly evolving. Not wanting to get stuck in one style or palette, I want to remain free in my inspirations and the energy revealed in my work.
I am mainly working with acrylics on raw cotton canvas, creating watery washes to stay close to watercolor techniques, as it's what moves me the most and feels the most intuitive. I use various media, such as oil pastels, gold leaf, texture, oil sticks, acrylic inks and pencils to create marks in my work. I also work on paper with watercolors and acrylics. I love to use my hands and material collected in nature to create abstract shapes and keep it as natural as possible. My work is intuitive and composition takes form by itself, following the inspiration and emotions within me at that time. I love to photograph the environment that surrounds me to inspire me with new color pallets and compositions.
